Just installed XP SP2 and now my email and several
websites show red x's instead of the graphics and
pictures. I had this same problem with IE6 SP1 and
finally resolved the problem after 1+ yr by practically
rebuilding my computer. Now they're back with XP SP2. I
should have learned my lesson to install these "fix-all"
Service Packs from MS. I think I'll uninstall SP2 (if
that's possible) and go back to what I had before.

Geez, thanks again MS.

By default in OE with XP SP-2, the display of images in HTML mail is turned
off by default as a security measure. In OE go to
Tools...Options...Security tab and uncheck the box there under "Downloaded
images".
As for images in IE, see this article for possible help:

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer

If no joy, see this site for possible help:

A million thanks Jon! That did the trick for the OE mail
messages. Hopefully, that's the only surprise in store
for me with XP SP2. I never read anything about this. I
guess I need to check all the new security settings that
MS thinks I need.

Thanks again, Jon

The reason it's turned off is to prevent web bugs that can confirm the
receipt of an email message/address.

This worked for me. If you have Acrobat or Acrobat reader go to Edit >
Preferences > General > Internet... and uncheck the box that says "display
pdf in browser".
