But most of us should get it by just clicking on Tools | Windows Update in
IE.

Note that Microsoft says explicitly that:

"This technical preview is unsupported and is intended for testing purposes
only. Do not use in production environments."

Why 'most of us'?

Hi, Will.

That phrase looks different now than it did when I wrote it. ;^}

I meant that, if we are checking Windows Update as often as we should, we
will see RC2 there. "Most of us" never go to the TechNet site. Unless we
see your link and click on it.

I don't have time to install RC2 for a couple of days, so I didn't get far
into this at WU, but I did not see the "unsupported" caveat there. I wonder
if people who don't go to TechNet will see that warning.

RC

It isn't the final release (RC2) - so all the warnings are still attached to
it.

Please also note that the SP2 RC2 is NOT offered on Windows Update to anyone
who has not already installed a later build of SP2 that moves you to the
version 5 Windows Update site.
If you are running SP2 RC builds place direct your questions a postings
related to this to the appropriate newsgroups for SP2 RC support.

It's not in the usual Windows Update site-- only the newer "v5" site which
is also in beta. (If you had the RC1 of the service pack installed, I guess
you would be seeing this newer "v5" Windows Update site (?)

Otherwise people still see the standard v4 site which doesn't offer XP SP2
RC2 at this time

OK. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Yes, I am running RC1 from the
widely-available green CD-ROM, and the RC2 is on the V5 Windows Update site.
