Please, can anyone point me to where I can find the
information about the thorough backup done by Windows
Update prior to the installation of XP SP2, (and where is
the backup)? I think said backup is better than the System
Restore that I did prior to the installation pf SP2, and I
need to use it.
I have two computers. One with Windows XP Professional
and one with Windows XP Home. Both of them have the
latest versions of Pest Patrol and Norton Antivirus 2004,
and also Zone Alarm Firewall Version 5.1. I just installed
Windows XP Service Pack 2 on both, each with a
successful end (as far as the Windows Update was
concerned) --(I had turned PP, NAV and ZA all off prior
to the installation).
(A) The installation on Windows XP Professional, after a
superficial check (as I have not had the chance to do
a thorough one as yet), seems to have gone fine --with
the exception of the taskbar which went kind of crazy.
But I fixed most of that problem, even though my settings
for the "Notification Area" keep being changed for some
MS items from my setting of "always hide" to "hide when
inactive" (although it acts as "always show").
(B) The installation on Windows XP Home appeared to be OK
after a superficial check. However, the more the computer
was used the more it quickly deteriorated and rendered the
computer unusable. For example: (1) when you display
"Computer" (which showed contents) it shows now a blank
page with a flashlight that keeps searching (i.e., nothing
in Computer), (2) the Start->Search does not search, it
freezes and you have to end the task, (3) in the Internet
Explorer, the file->open->OK sequence fails to open the
url one specifies and the window freezes (you have to end
the task), etc.
I did a System Restore before installing XP SP2 but I
believe it is not as complete as the backup performed by
Windows Update, particularly now that entire programs have
been changed such as IE.
Does anybody know where to find information about using
said backup and as to where it is?
