XP SP2 C0000135 error

When loading XP SP2 installation runs fine but when it restarts the machine
we get C0000135 error unable to load component. It complains about winsrv not
found. When we check the system the file is there. Anyone else having this
problem?

I'm having the same problem as reported by jkitz. I have posted about it
here (earlier) as have several others.

I read the info at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm, but I didn't see
where it addresses the problem. Did I miss something?

I thought perhaps it is the access rights problem at
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#Cannot_install_Service_Pack_2.

Not sure though, could be something else. Is the file actually
there?

Yes, the file does exist; not for sure if it is the correct version though.

Matt,

you could try a repair installation of Windows XP, if you have a
full, not OEM, version.

Boot from the install CD, first select install (not repair),
then select repair installation. Of course every action like
this involves a risk, so back up your important data and manage
this risk.
