A Dell optiplex 260 P.C used at my work keeps crashing
with the following stop error.
STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X805AC9E5, 0XF909AD20,
0X00000000).The machine is
totally up to date with XP SP1 and all current windows
updates. I booted the machine
from the dell resource CD which allows you to run checks
on the hardware in the P.C
however this shows up no problems. Also running a
diagnostic check on the disk drive
pre-boot shows no problem. I have ensured also that the
BIOS is up to date.
Any help appreciated

You'd nbeed to give more information. What is done before it gives that
error.. There is usually more to the error than what you gave - usually a
part that states a filename. However, it looks like a hardware/driver
conflict from first glance.

.
did ask the user if any filenames were mentioned in the
stop error but he says no. However I have asked him to
phone me next time the P.C crashes and I will go and see
for myself the blue screen and see if there is anything
extra to extract from the dump. Generally he says he
leaves his desk to go and do other jobs and comes back to
a blue screen, sometimes with no programs running.
Happens about twice a day.

As crazy as this sounds, have him change his screensaver to something OLD
fashioned, like the marque one.. Something non-3d - even "blank" and check
the power settigs, make sure it is not set to try and hibernate or go into
standby or something.
