I'm trying to help a friend who has a new Compaq Desktop with XP Home. His computer takes 1 minute and 50 seconds from the time you turn on the power until the desktop appears. I have defragged, deleted temps, deleted the programs in start, and minimized the number of programs starting under msconfig - startup. Yet there seems to be no significant change. He definitely has 256 MB of RAM. I have also followed a number of suggestions in Smart Computing and PC Magazine for tweaking for best performance. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What is on the screen the whole time it's booting..? Also could you post
your pc's spec's. Thanks
