After my computer came back from repair many things have not been the same.
One of which is the XP look. Mine is still that of Win Me, not XP.
How can I get it back?

Right mouse click on desktop, pick "properties" and pick another "theme".
Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Attempt failed.
I found 2 folders named Themes, one under windows\resource and the other
under Plus.
There's only one file called luna.theme.

Not normal. The repair shop seems to have made some changes that they
need to explain to you. Perhaps the first step is to phone them and find
out what they did, why, etc. Tell them what theme you had and ask them
where it is. also try searching for this theme file via windows search
command.

I see on my un-modified Toshiba laptop a small list of available themes:
Windows XP
Toshiba
Windows Classic
More Themes Online ...(leading to a Microsft web site)
Browse ... (leading to where I can find them on my hard disk).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

The repair job had already turned me and the shop into wearied atagonists,
as so many little things had gone wrong. They've tried, but I guess they're
more like hardware techs, and they don't really use the computer that much.
Apparently most of their customers simply buy another license and have them
install a new os. When I refused, they couldn't understand why I wanted to
wade into my computer. Now they won't help with my " fuss about colors", and
'don't want to spend time on such trivial things.
I've looked at the themes online. They're fancy ones, not those shipped with
XP.

Just occured to me. I'll browse my other computer and copy theme files and
see if it'll work.

Thanks, guys.

Don't know if this would help, but maybe a repair/restore of XP will fix
this and the other little things? Or do a restore to a previous
version. Just a thought...

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I see that my reply last night has gone astray.
What happened was one of the 2 hard disks failed. Luckily it was the slave.
The shop got my computer going again, added a new hard disk and that was it.
They're not too happy that I go back to them for non-hardware issues. I'm
not too sure which issues arise out of their service, either. They think I
should have taken their advice, bought another license, and live happily
ever after, as most of their customers do.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. It occurs to me I might be able to copy
some theme files from another computer, so I'll go and try soon.
