XP Sign On Screen

I have XP Professional amd for a long time I could go
straight to my desktop after pushing the 'On' switch,
then, for unknown reason, I now get the "To begin click
User Name" screen which includes the message to go to the
control panel and 'User Accounts' to change the account.

I would like to bypass or turn off this screen and go
directly to my desktop when I turn on the computer but I
cannot find a way to do so. One computer showed me how
to do it on XP home edition but Professional seems to
have quiet different screens.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have tried this method before, but it does not work.
All you get is an error message saying 'The system could not log you on'
then it takes you to the screen where you have to click on your name to log
on.

Stuart,

I've seen a couple of cases where this problem might occur if incorrect password is typed in the Userpasswords2 applet. Repeating the procedure again might help [disable autologon and then re-enable].

Or, use TweakUI and configure Windows XP to Automatically Login:
