Ever since I installed the new critical update, my Windows
XP laptop will only Shut Down when I try to Restart. Any
ideas?

All of these (as far as I could tell) dealt with shutdown
problems. I haven't seen anything that deals with restart
problems. Even the startup/shutdown troubleshooter
recommended in one of the articles only dealt with
problems resulting from shutting down. Thanks though!!!

I just discovered in another forum that others have had
the exact same problem. It had to do with drivers. What I
forgot to mention in my original post is that at the same
time I downloaded the Windows patch I also downloaded an
nVidia update. I immediately had problems after that. I
couldn't boot up and I would get that blue screen. So I
started in Safe Mode and performed a System Restore and it
worked fine. I tried installing the updates again and this
time I can boot up just fine, but when I click "Restart"
my system just completely Shuts Down. Supposedly you
should uninstall the old nVidia drivers before installing
new ones, so I tried that, but I still can't Restart
without my system shutting down.

Which critical update was it? Do you really need it?
did it apply to your situation? If the answers to #2 and
#3 were no (most likely) then remove the update!!!

Just one more thing reguarding my last post about
removing the update. update # 328310 and KB824141 close a
security hole in windows. However an attacker can not
exploit these two holes remotly!! They would have to have
access to your keyboard. This is in the tech specs. If
your computer is in your house I doubt that you need
these two.
