Morning All,

I have recently set up a wireless network at home consisting of two
PCs, my desktop and a laptop. I can see the contents of the shared
documents folder from the laptop, but when I try to save a new file to
it I am told that I can't because the directory is 'Read Only'.

Both PCs are running XP - the desktop XP Home and the laptop XP Pro.

Can anyone shed any light on why this might be happening? If I look
at the properties of the Shared Docs folder I see that 'Read Only' is
coloured in, but have been led to believe that this doesn't actually
mean the folder is read only as a tick would be used for that (who on
earth invented a tri-state checkbox??).

Thanks for any tips,

Al.

Allow sharing from a remote computer. Then it will be accessible. The
article linked below discusses file sharing with "Simple File Sharing"
turned off. However, it has a link to another article in the opening
paragraphs (about the third one down) that covers Simple File Sharing :

Sharon,

Thanks for that link - very useful. I think I now have it working, I
can save files onto my desktop using the laptop, although I'm not
entirely sure how.. Don't you love it!

Thanks again,
Al.
