Been reviewing the groups for seems like days now, and haven't been
able to find my question answered. Nothing shows up in XP's my
network places, nor can I view network computers on XP.
I've got a laptop and a desktop on a small network:
Desktop Win98SE 192.168.1.2
Laptop XP Home 192.168.1.3
I've shared items on both of them. The desktop can see and access
(read and write) shares from both the laptop and the desktop
(printers, shares). The laptop sees nothing in my network places nor
in the view network computers. Not even itself.
On the laptop, if I use "net view \\laptop", I see the shares. If I
use "net view \\desktop", I can view those shares. I can ping both
the ip address on both systems as well as the system names.
If I try to connect to one of the shares, it fails with
"\\laptop\shared The network path was not found." Same for
"\\desktop\shared The network path was not found." Browsing in any of
it's forms yields no results. "Find Computer" cannot find itself from
the laptop. "Find Computer" on the desktop can see the laptop just
fine.
ICF is disabled in the network settings as well as in the services.
NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. The laptop shows up as the master
when using nbtstat -n
Any ideas? It's just baffling me.
