I need to restore some system files that were accidentally changed. So I
clicked Start | Run and entered SFC /scannow
Every file that it scanned SFC kept prompting me for the XP Professional SP2
CD. My OS is XP SP2 Home Ed. my install CD is for XP SP2 Home. Is there a
workaround for this? Or, am I SOL?

Before running the command, make sure the CD is in the installation drive. When it starts
to autoplay just click the X and close it.
Now run the command.
This has been a known issue and if you place the CD in the drive first, it seems to work
then.

Hello,

I followed Microsoft KB artile 897128 "You may be prompted to insert a
Windows XP Professional CD when you run the System File Checker tool in
Windows XP Home Edition" to the letter. I am still being prompted but now
it asks for the Windows XP Home Edition CD. It's not recognizing my CD as
the correct one. Is there a way to read my Windows XP Home Ed CD to see
what the SFC.exe is seeing? Then I can adjust files Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf
accordingly.
