I loaded SP3 this weekend and it has killed my computer. Deleted all restore
points, deleted all network connections, all internet connections, changed
all settings. Loaded IE7 but can't find it. I'm thinking it's time for an
Apple. Now that I vented(sorry), Any ideas on a fix or should I format and
start over?

The first thing I would do is to try to uninstall it via Control Panel |
Add or Remove Programs (make sure the box next to "Show updates" is
checked.

Did the botched attempt to install SP3 delete all restore points or did
you do this yourself? Or is it possible there is merely a third-party
program running on your PC (like Norton) that is interfering with System
Restore? For more info:

When you are ready to take the plunge again, post back here so we can
guide you properly. As long as the proper precautions are taken, the
upgrade is uneventful.

HI Dave,
Now that you mention it, I have found Spybot updated and is running it's on
virus scanner in the back ground warning me of registry changes. I've spoken
to people here who said SP3 was mainly security updates so I can't imagine
why it would effect everything. It did delete all the restore points. It was
set to have restore points once a month since I rarely make in changes to the
computer. I'll try this when I get home this afternoon and see if my internet
connections come back. Thanks,Keith

Received a fix from MS yesterday , loaded in safe mode, but no results.
Apperantly I have a "blinded" devise manager. WOn't load any programs at
start up.

Which MS fix did you receive and how did you implement it?

What do you mean exactly that you got "no results" when you started in
Safe Mode?

And what do you mean by the phrase "blinded devise manager?"

Which programs are not loading at startup? Are you using your usual
profile? Did you perhaps alter your startup programs using msconfig?

Did you try performing a manual System Restore using the Recovery
Console? Instructions:

"How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from
starting"

It's possible the above won't work because I believe you stated you had
unwisely deleted all your restore points. :-(

It sounds like you may wind up needing to either a Repair Install or a
Clean Install. Make sure you save all your data first. If you need
guidance, post back.

Hi Daave, the file was fixccs.exe, KB953979-x86-enu.exe

I think I understand you now.

If that fix doesn't work, you may have run out of most options. It's a
shame you cleared away your restore points. Did you try LKGC?

HI Daave,
in speaking to MS, SP3 is set to remove all restore points! checked the
services.msc file last night and all but a few were disabled. I'm going for
the format and start over. WindowsExplorer is erroring out now. Thanks for
your time.
