Installed Service Pack 3 last night. Went fine up to the point that it tries
to reboot. Won't boot normal, won't boot "last known good configuration",
won't boot safe mode (stops on Mup.sys), won't boot no way. Lovely. Time to
give Windows the boot, I guess.

Useful Link. Thanks. OEM means original equip manufacture, which means OS
pre-installed by maker, e.g. Dell, HP - is that correct? I bought XP CD
along with other components. I should know what the article means by OEM,
but I'd guess great majority of users have an "OEM" OS, so the article would
have very limited usefulness. TIA for your further comment.

OEM setups are often 'image' files, not qualified for that fix, but Dell is
usually an exception to that rule, supplying a standard Windows setup and
drivers/applications CD with the system in addition to the 'recovery'
partition for 'factory' defaults..
Booting to the Recovery Console should give you access to registry
replacement.
