xp service pack 1 express

When I downloaded and installed xp service pack 1 express
from the windows update page, computer kept rebooting, and
never would start up. I had to remove the service pack
with system restore before my computer would work again.
does anyone have a solution?

Try taking the "Network Install" and then installing it from there, after
turning off anything that is running, including your AV program, then
reboot.
