XP Search wont work nor link in email :(

Dear Group,

My XP SP1 Dell desktop has two problems. Selecting 'Search' from 'Start'
menu does nothing AND for the past week we realize that the machine will
*not* go to a www site when one clicks on the imbedded link when it is
within the body of an email.

I did a google search and by coincidence? this thread contains info on both

I did read IEFix reference but I am confused. For example I see two
hyperlinks on http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm for dloading IEFIX. Are
they identical? Is it simply a matter of dclicking the file and install is
automatic or to make use of IEFix v1.5 does one need the Windows XP CD?

I did try this and still no luck. So I did a 'System Restore' and that has
done it....for both problems.
