I know there could be a plethora of reason for the slow down but I do not
know how to speed things up. Basically XP takes some to to load whera before
it was reasonably swift.

Any good ideas?

.
First - Go in ControlPanel/Add or Remove Programs/and
check if you have Q811493 update installed. Uninstall
it, for that is the culprit of your slowdown. You can
always redownload it later and reinstall.
Second - Have you downloaded SP1, Update install kit?
That would be your next culprit. MS now has a repair kit
for this. Go to Updates to check it out.

you could also check your start up programs, you may have
more then you need starting, they all take ram to start.

I think as we add software and hardware overhead that the loading time
becomes longer by the nature of computers. Since you did not provide any
useful information on software, hardware, and any changes you have made,
along with the time you consider long loading, it is difficult.
