XP - Restore Point problem

G

Geoff

Downloaded the Internet Explorer security patch the computer became very
slow and kept crashing time after time even when booting up in safe mode.
When I tried to restore to a previous restore point I now get the message
"cannot restore to the previous restore point". Where to now?

Uninstall the "patch".

Then:

Close all open programs
Temporarily disable all security software.
Download and install whatever update you're talking about.
Re-enable your security software.

Thanks will try that (it is a problem that a friend has - my computer
installed the security patch ok without any ongoing problem).

The Internet Explorer security patch was a special release i.e. not a
normal monthly update so it must important. I think you should not
automatically assume the problems and the update are connected;
certainly without some research.

Thanks Gerry,
I don't think it is either but it would be nice to get a restore point
working again and then follow the download procedure suggested by Leonard
Grey. Maybe my friend "stuffed' something up. Getting back to a good known
restore point could be somewhere to start from though.
