xp restore locked

How do I clear the restore process that is locked halfway through with an
error message that I have to then cancel and each time I reboot it goes to
the same message.
Originally, my XP failed to recognize the DVD drives due to a Registry
corruption so I cant finish the restore process because it wont read the XP
cd from the nonexistent drive and I need to get back to the Operating system
(XP) to correct the registry to recognize the drive. Does this make sense to
anyone ?
