I have a system with xp upgraded to an xp pro. I installed an antivirus program, the program ran the first check at reboot and then went to finish the startup and got as far as the desktop background picture and that's it. The mouse moves, but nothing else, there is no toolbar no nothing.
I assume some files got deleted, but I don't know what.
When I start the computer up in safe mode everything seems to be in working order (all icons are there etc). I ran a chkdsk and nothing was found.
I am wondering what else I can do to figure out the problem and retain all of my files, I don't have any restoration floppies to use the automated restoration.
