Hi folks: Does anybody know how to stop XP Home restarting. I had this
problem a long time ago and there seemed to be a fix for it. As far as I
know I haven't done anything and it just started doing this after an update
from Microsoft was installed I think.
Thanks, Donald

Hi Donald,

Control Panel/system/advanced tab/startup and recovery settings, uncheck the
entry to automatically restart.

Doing this should cause the system to throw an error message next time there
is a fault rather than restart. This might help resolve what is actually
causing it.

Turn off 'restart after failure' in my computer, properties, advanced,
startup & recovery, and then report the blue screen error message you
now get instead of a restart. 90%+ of the time what is happening is some
driver crashes when asked to close down nicely, and XP then 'restarts
after failure'.

When you read the blue screen 'suicide note' the culprit may be
glaringly obvious (Creative Sound Card drivers and Logitec keyboard
drivers seem to lead the field).

Hi: It restarts when I try to shut the computer down. I'm running
Logitech software but had no problems till a few days ago after the
update download from Microsoft as far as I can see. I've checked all the
usual things - auto restart etc. But many months ago I had the problem
and someone suggested a change in the registry but I didn't write it
down. Thanks

Hi Rick: The problem occurs when I try to shut down the computer, it is
not random. Auto restart was unchecked. I'm running Logitech KB software
and had no problems till the Microsoft update arrived! Mind you the KB
functions are rather hit and miss sometimes they work and sometimes not
- rather poor software methinks!
Many months ago I had this same problem and someone suggested a registry
change which worked. But I didn't write it down - silly me. Any more
ideas? Thanks
