XP requires activation after 18 months

version of XP loaded over 18 months ago is requiring activation...cant
get past it...no hardware upgrades of any kind undertaken....loaded
antivirus over a week ago....then today the machine is out of action
thanks in advance for any tips....

Bummer, what does it say? Look for the onscreen prompts to activate by phone
and follow the instructions.

Just activate it again. This happens when enough major changes happen.
Doesn't hurt to activate all over again.

PS, I had a disk error across a part of the disk that included how XP finds
out it is legal when booting. That made my XP suddenly want to be
reactivated. That may be what happened to you. After you reactivate, boot
off the XP CD and go to the first repair prompt and do a chkdsk /p just in
case.
