The "add printer" feature does not work in XP. Also,
when using "add hardware", the wizard finds the printer
to be added from the list in XP, but can't make it
through the process of adding the printer without an
error.

Computer was sent to my nephew. Before sending, had a
technician wipe the hard drive and reinstall the
operating system (XP). Newphew called to say that
printer that I sent along with the comptuter brings up an
error when try to install the printer. The same printer
worked well with the computer when I had the items. I
believe this may have something to do with the reinstall.

Any suggestions that I can pass along to my nephew?

I'm sorry, but I don't have the exact text. My nephew
only told me, over the telephone, that the installation
of the printer was beginning, when it stopped, due to "an
error".

Tell him to type

sfc /scannow

from the command prompt. (and tell him to hit the enter after he's typed
sfc /scannow) He must have the CD of XP in order to do this... or be able
to point it to the i386 folder in the Windows folder.
