xp reboots over and over after installing windows update

computer was running great after a fresh install of win xp
home and installing dsl etc. i decided to run the windows
updates. They downloaded fine and installed, it asked to
restart, and now it is in a loop and just reboots, it
dosnt matter which boot option you choose it still reboots

Neil;
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Choose "Last known good configuration" at the menu.
Or
Reboot tapping F8 again, choose "Safe Mode" at the menu.
Try System Restore
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore
Choose date/Time before issue started.

If those fail, perform a Repair Installation:

Windows Updates will need to be reinstalled.
Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.
Install Service Pack first and by itself.
Then install ALL Critical Updates no more than 4 at a time,

Disconnect the network/modem cable before starting repair and do NOT
reconnect the cable until repair is completed and firewall is
installed/enabled.
