Hi all,

A few months after installing xp, my computer will suddenly reboot in the
middle of whatever I may happening to be doing. This happens about once a
day. Can anyone help?

My system is fairly new: Athlon xp 2400, 256 MB, Soyo MB

Thanks!

Without anything other details to go on, I would say that your random
rebooting is due to overheating inside the case. Another possibility is bad
RAM.

Hi

Try this to see what the problem may be:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the Advanced tab.
Click on Settings under Startup and Recovery and disable 'Automatically
restart'. Next time your PC reboots, you should see a Blue Screen. Could
you please post the Stop Code that accompanies that BSOD back here? With
that your problem could be isolated.

You are presumably blue-screening, and you are set to reboot whenever that
happens. Right-click My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Advanced
tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure,
uncheck the box "Automatically restart.

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get the
blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those details for
more help.

Also note that, fairly new system or not, random rebooting is often a
hardware problem, not a software one.

Well, here's something for starters - at boot up I got a 'serious error'
message: it said that an unknown device driver had failed, and gave the
following error signature:

BCCode:4e BCP1:0000008F BCP2: 0000DC7E BCP3:0000C88E BCP4:
00000000 OSVER:5_1_2600 SP:2_0 Product:768_1

It also produced a report to send to MS; I saved the report files if they
are of any use to you. I did set up the paramaters that were suggested, and
will send any notes from the crash bluescreen. Thanks for the help, and
Happy Holidays!
