I am trying to upgrade to XP Pro on to my Toshiba 1905-
S277. It has (had?) XP home on it now. But I have been
attempting to upgrade to Pro so I can log on to various
networks at work and home.

During the installation process it reboots during the
Installing Windows phase at the 34 minute mark (when XP
says it has 34 minutes remaining). It gives an error
screen before it reboots, but I am unable to read the
screen fast enough or press the pause break button quick
enough to pause the screen to read it.

Is there a way to restore back to XP Home without losing
all of my information on the laptop? I have tried the F8
key and the last know good configuration, but it just goes
back into the XP pro set up.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you,

Alan

Upgrade from WinXP Home to XP Pro is a one-way street - once started, you
can only return to WinXP Home with a full format and reinstall of all
software and drivers (you will loose important data files also - so back
them up first).

Alan,

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If so, do that and then go in and use Msconfig
from Start, Run and uncheck all unnecessary items in the Startup tab.
Specifically you need to disable anti-virus and other utilities on startup
so that they don't interfere with your WinXP Pro install.
