I just "up" graded to XP Home version and boy, am I ready to bail out
already!! Supposed to be the greatest thing since flush toilets but it's
sure not user friendly -- at least with this user. I'm sure I'll get the
hang of it, but in the meantime, it's running slower than my grandmother.

First thought is that there might be too many programs running in the
background, so I hit Control-Alt-Delete and the screen capture on this page
shows what 's running in the background.

Now... to start with, I have two questions if anyone would be so kind as to
post their reply or email me at (e-mail address removed). (This email is bogus
due to spamfest.)

1 - Do these all look like they are OK or do any look like they might up to
no good? and

2 - Which of these programs can I shut down to make the computer run faster?
(Note that the screen capture is from a laptop and it is never connected to
the internet - so I don't need any internet-related programs running.)

Please send me an email if you think anything looks weird here.

Thanks in advance!!

The program "khooker.exe" runs with many computers in the background. It is
installed with the drivers of a SIS Grafikkarte. SIS describes the function
of "khooker.exe" with "key board Polling", which means that one can assign
thereby special functions to a key on the keyboard. It is not needed for the
enterprise, why you can remove it without problems. With some computers the
redundant program even crashes and error messages can cause. If you want to
remove "khooker.exe", proceed in such a way:

- terminating it "khooker.exe" in the task manager.
-, and you type a going you on "starting/implementing" "regedit", in order
to start the registration editor.
- clicking it itself in the left window up to the entry
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run".
- now you should see in the right window an entry, which ends on
"khooker.exe", about to "C:\WINDOWS\System32\khooker.exe" or similarly.
Deletion it this entry.
Deletion it also the program tape "khooker.exe". They find it in the
"System32"-Verzeichnis in your Windows file. (MT

You have many programs running that are not needed, too many for me to look up
try google.com
also here is a great site for unnessary windows processes and how to disable
them.
If you don't have SP2 don't worry this site is still valid

You have Paint Shop Pro (psp.exe) taking up 99% of your processing power.
If you took this screen shot just after starting psp this may be normal but
if it continues taking this amount of processing power for more than about
10 seconds something is wrong.

try looking at CPU usage when psp is not running. If it is 1/2% and your
machine runs faster then this is your problem. psp should not be loading in
the background anyway, unless you have it in your start group..

In addition to any other advice here, know that any time you do major
installation (OS, Office, etc) you will have a heavily defragmented hard
drive and that will cause some slowing. Go to Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools and run Disk Defragmenter. It does not
hurt to run a couple of times. Start it and go to a movie.
