I have Windows XP professional. On the start menu is the
bar "documents". Is there a way to eliminate that bar? It
shows all of the recently accessed files. I can delete
those files from that menu bar, but it takes multiple
mouse clicks to do so. I have to go through the "setting"
bar etc. I don't want the "documents" button to ever show
recently accessed files. I've looked at the custom
function and I don't see away to do this. How can I fix
this?

Thanks,
Stan

I use windows xp, not pro. But maybe the settings are the
same. Right click the START button and select properties,
In the window that appears, click the START MENU tab on
top. Click the customize button. In the window that
opened, Click the ADVANCED tab on top... There is a
button here to clean you recent documents, Also a check
box to show recent documents, press that button, and
uncheck the box.. click ok and ok again... that should do
it... Good Luck!

It seems to me that you are referring to My Recent Documents, which appears
on the right hand side of the Start menu.

My Recent Documents cannot be disabled from the interface. You need to edit
the registry directly. You can find the hack on this page:
http://www.j79zlr.com/reg.php.

Note: I have not tried this myself, and so offer no assurances for your
success. Editing the registry directly is risky.

Silly me. You can, in fact, prevent the display of recent documents without
editing the registry. Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties.
Choose the Start Menu tab and click on the Customize button, Choose the
Advanced tab and remove the checkmark from 'List my most recently opened
documents'.
