I own a Sony Vaio Desk Top Computer with XP Home Edition
and a Sony Vaio Notebook Computer with Windows 98. Can I
install XP Pro in both computers without reg. or copyright
problems? Would it be best to purchase the complete
edition versus the upgrade? Thanks, Paul.

No, you can only install Windows XP on one computer per copy. So you would
need to buy two copies of XP. You only need to buy the upgrade version since
you already have a previous product.

Furthermore, if the OS's already installed on your computers are OEM
versions (installed by the dealer when you bought the computers) you cannot
use the upgrade version of XP, as OEM versions due not qualify for update.

I believe that is incorrect. OEM versions do in fact qualify for the upgrade
version. What you may be thinking of is the fact that you cannot buy an OEM
version and use it as an upgrade, at least not usually. They will only allow
you to do a clean install. In this case buying two copies of the upgrade
version of XP Professional would work just fine. :-)

Greetings --

You've got it backwards. OEM licenses do qualify for upgrades,
but OEM CDs cannot perform upgrades.

Greetings --

While it's true that an OEM Recovery CD won't work as a qualifying
media during a clean installation using an Upgrade CD for _technical_
reasons, this does not mean that the OEM license is not a valid
qualifier for the upgrade. One can legitimately upgrade an OEM
installation of a qualifying OS (Win9x/Me/NT/2K, as applicable) to
WinXP.

Hi

Under normal circumstances OEM CDs do *not* qualify for an upgrade.
The one exception may be a Dell OEM CD. Have a look at the following
article by Gary Woodruff:

Would it be best to purchase the complete
edition versus the upgrade? A. complete
edition would be in the long run be smaller total of
bytes/size and less problems. MSoft software has built in
sucrity to open for a small amount of days without reg.
after you give them that reg. # for the virson of your OS
you get a confermation # that they give you to inter into
a text feild that is there every time you start up.
