XP PROFESSIONAL BOOTING ISSUES

Hello recently my dell system was infected with a virus i was finally able to
format reinstall and when i did i could not boot the system with out the cd.
now after deleting some files and runing my virus software (macafee) the
system will only boot to a black screen with the mouse pointer visible.

i cannot get the system to boot in any mode the only thing i was able to do
was get the professional recovery cd to boot to a screen where it ask if i
want to repair the boot sequence or reinstall the os. i just got most of my
programs back i dont want to format the system again.

please help me boot the system without the cd and to boot properly to the
log in screen and working

Start with the setup CD, and press ENTER to start setup. Right after you OK
the EULA screen, it will offer to Repair the existing install. You keep your
settings and data.
