Ok I will explain:
I go to HP instant support on line, it ask you to send
your problem to them.it brings up a box and ask you to
put what the problem is " I briefly explain" hit send
then it comes back and says I am not connected to the
internet but I am connected. I spoke with hp (if I could
understand them guess would help) they say it's an ISP
problem not their problem. I call my ISP and I have an
internet connection thru DSL. My other pc works fine not
this XP I am having problems with.I was able to do the
instant help on line with hp when I first got the pc. I
am wondering if the problem is something in the setting
because I have a DSL router I share with another pc in
our home. The other pc works fine.
I also told hp I could not get to some web sites. I get
an error message "unable to detect settings" hit refresh
be sure yiou are connected to the internet.I go to the
other pc that shares the DSL connection I can connect to
these web sites from that pc not the XP.
Again hp says it's a ISP problem. I feel it's some sort
of a conflict causing this. I don't know where to go for
help. If hp can't help me...who can? I got the XP in
January and I could connect to all sites in the last 45
days I have had this issue.Any help would be most
appreciated.

Do you have a firewall or other security software, do you have any ad
blocking or popup blocking software or security software that includes such
features, are you blocking cookies, any or all of these could cause the
message you are receiving.

Also, be sure to clear the IE cache. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools,
select Internet Options, click Delete Cookies, Delete Files (Accept the
option to delete all offline content) and click Clear history and try HP
support again.

I do not have a firewall, pop blocker or any of the other
things mentioned. I do have Norton Antivirus. I keep the
cache cleared all the time. I wonder if it's a conflict
between the router connection of the 2 pc's something in
the set up. Maybe the pc reads one way to dial but I'm
another way? make sense? Mabe I'll try hp
tomorrow, hopefully I can get someone I can understand and
who understands me too.
thanks

Have you tried disabling Norton Antivirus and then seeing if you can get
through?
