i've a new cd of windows xp but after installation winlogon.exe is up and is
impossible to kill it.
In my old cd of windows xp winlogon.exe is up only for logon user and after
it's kill automatically, but i don't understand registry key responsable.
Normally in all windows version winlogon.exe kill automatically after user
logon,
but in this cd is every on.

Tnx for any esplication to this serious problem.

You are not entirely correct in your understanding of the Winlogon
process.
The Winlogon process supports desktops, the Ctrl+Alt+Del secure
attention sequence, screen saver control, network provider support,
authentication, and password updates.
This service continues to run for the entire lifetime of a running
Windows XP system. It does not shutdown after you have logged on as
it is there to handle the services mentioned above.
If you see winlogon.exe running in your process list you do not have a
problem.

Hello Mike, tnx for your explication, but i don't understand why winlogon in
old version xp (i don't have now this cd), kill after logon...
Another question is, winlogon.exe in other windows version ( 95, 98, 98se,
Me), it's normally every on? or kill automatically after user logon?

Tnx in advance to other explication.

HI,

It has been so long since I have used an old Windows version like 9x
or Me I cannot say if the winlogon process continues after logon.
