Hi All,
Long story short, I was here a week or two ago when my Dell
Dimension8400 crash without warning. Corrupted registry as far as I
can tell. I tried fixing the issue with the (R) repair function and
had no luch so went and did a complete reinstall. However, like many
had told me, I did not loose all of the info on my HD, I did loose
some but not that much. So I went ahead and did the reinstall, but
now I can't get back online with my ISP, which is Verizon Fios.
Here is all the info I can get as I had to copy, burn it onto a CD
and take it to the backup again as I cant keep both going at once.
I see a 1394 Adapter
broadband status- conneted
duration 00:16:09
speed: 400.0 Mbs
Activity
sent-----0 (computer icon) -- recived Packets 0
Client service for Netware
Client for Micosoft networks
Service Advertising Protocol
Internet Protcol (TCP/IP)
What should be checked off and what shouldn't?
I live near Boston in the Northeast and have Verizon Fios if that
helk helps
I also found using a tool called winincfg the following info:
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
In the network properties tab it reads tat I an using "point to point
protpcol over ethernet (PPPoE)
Now, in the device manager it tells me that the 1394 netowrk is a
network adapter and that all is working fine
but when I scroll down it shows me the following all with ? marks
next to them:
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Video Controller
Unknown Device
Video Controller (VGA Compatable)
all down the line that have ?! type of attention getters, when I try
t uninstall them the Plug & Play bring them back to the same spot
again.
The issue is that I do not have the drivers for these applications
and it when XP realizes this it wants to connect to the internet to
look
for the device, but it cannot make the connection? WHY NOT??
I just dont get it and I am literally going crazy trying to get this
one.
I can take my old standby, Gateway G6-450- P2, selfinstalled card
and all that great stuff and it I just connect the network cable and
it
connects to the internet to problem. But this machine, the one I need
the most as it is so fast and great, by my statdards anyways, just
will not make the connections
When I look at the lower left corner of my screen there is a LAN
Icon with the two screens that tells me I am online, but why cant I
get there?
Someone, anyone, please help, plese show me the way>
Thank you for all who respond and may God Bless you all and have a
great night!
Any ideas as to what I an do to get back online. The machine is
running great, and like i said, I think I am actually online via on
the network, I just can't seem to get the configuration right to get
online like is IE and AOL again.
Once again, please,please help!!!
Supposedly there is a way that one can dial via broadband into
another PC to make a fix, I would be willing to let someone take a
shot at that, but I know being what it is that that may be asking a
little much of those how have done so much for me!
Thank you again!
