Jeff

Over the weekend, I have rolled out a new Win2003 Server.
It is the PDC, over all this have gone very well with in
minor issue. The XP Pro workstations loose their network
connections if the machines are left on over night. I
have checked to see if "session" are set to expire. So
far nothing, looks out of place.

Can anyone offer any possible causes?

Thanks,

Hi, Jeff -

My first guess would be the XP machines are shutting off
the NICs - if you look at the NIC's properties in Device
Manager you'll see an option to "Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power". I'd uncheck the box
and reboot the machine.

This sounds VERY similar to my problem, although my brand
new XP Pro machine loses its ability to access my Win 2000
Server domain controller after being up for most of the
day. (This network has been running with 2 Win 2K Pro
stations for 2.5 years without this kind of problem.)

I already tried turning off the option for the computer to
turn off the NIC and I still have the same problem. I
never lose access to the Internet from the XP Pro machine
through the router, by the way. I just updated the driver
for my NIC and that doesn't appear to help either.

I've checked the Event Log on the XP Pro machine and I see
the following error messages every 8 hours:

Source: UserEnv Event ID 1054
"Windows cannot obtain the Domain Controller name for your
computer network. The specified domain either does not
exist or could not be contacted. Group policy processing
aborted."

Source: AutoEnrollment Event ID 15
" ... failed to contact the Active Directory. The
specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted. ... "

Seems like the problem has to be related to some setting
in Win XP Pro, but I don't know what else to try!

Please HELP!
