XP Pro upgrade from W2000 Pro--no programs work

I just installed XP Pro over my Windows 2000 Pro, as an
upgrade, not a clean install, and all seemed to go well.
I used my name as usual for Administrator, and don't
recall other options about retaining existing user
settings. The new "me" gets none of the Favorites, Start
Menu, etc.--I can't run any of my programs, including
Office. When I look in Documents and Settings, there are
multiple user directories: me, me with a middle initial,
ALl USERS, and ALL USERS.WIN. I find all my documents
and programs in "me" with middle initial, and finally was
able to copy FAV and DOCS to current "me" but STILL
CANNOT RUN ANY PROGRAMS. XP tells me they're not
installed. HELP!!

Hi,

Windows has already told you what you need to do - reinstall the programs
under your preferred account. I don't know why the user profiles were not
migrated over, they usually are.

Is that the only way? I thought that an "upgrade" simply
replaced the operating system, and left the programs and
docunets intact. Otherwise, I would have hesitated
because it'll take forever to reinstall, even if I could
find all my discs.

Hi,

It is unless an account was carried over from the old installation.

Did you try logging on with your middle initial?
Since it appears that is what you where using on 98, your settings may be
intact under that account.
