when i upgrade to xp pro from xp home, will it save my network configurations
or will i have to set my network up all over again
thank you

Hi,

Upgrades generally preserve settings. I would still jot down the specifics
before doing the upgrade, but you should be fine.

Hi,

No reason you can't install a retail Pro upgrade over an OEM Home version.
There is a chance you may need some drivers from the manufacturer, but if it
supported Home, it will support Pro. A store like BestBuy would not sell OEM
versions other than ones that come preinstalled on the machines they sell.

i have a toshiba sattelite with xp home, it is an oem version. can i still
upgrade over the oem version with a retail version of xp pro. what is, and
how should i go about getting a retail version of xp pro update. they have
xp pro update for sale at bestbuy right now for 179.00, however i do not
know if that is a retail version or what. bestbuy is where the pc came from
too. is that update on sale going to be safe to install directly over the
oem home edtion? are there going to be conflicts, since it is an oem version
of xp home right now?
i have heard some nightmare stories about upgrading to xp pro over xp
home. however i need the on board server feature that comes with xp pro, for
learning web applications and the like. would it be better to just get a
full version of xp pro for 299.00, and can that still be installed over xp
home without messing up network setting and such? it seems like it should be
simple to do, although with all the research i have been doing, it is
beginning to get scarier and scarier all the time.
