Hi, I have a quick question, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum
or not.

I have a Windows XP Pro "Upgrade" CD. I already have Windows XP on my
computer, and would like to use the "Upgrade" CD to put a fresh
installation on the computer (to have a completely clean copy, with all
the current files on there to be removed). Can you do this? I chose
the "New Installation" option during the Setup of the disc, and when it
restarted the computer, it gave me the "which operating system do you
want to use?" and the options were "Windows XP Pro" or "Windows XP Pro
Setup," so of course I chose the latter.

It then showed me that I already had an existing partition with Windows
XP on it, and asked what I wanted to do with it. Since I would like to
have a fresh installation, what should I do?

Thanks.

Hi,

You wouldn't choose a new installation for what you want, you'd choose the
in-place upgrade option.

Oh, I thought the "upgrade" simply upgraded the operating system but
kept all of the existing files (personal files like documents,
pictures, etc.) in place.

Apparently you now have a dual boot.
Either on the same partition as original, potentially bad, or on a separate
partition.

Go back and start over.
Read all the options carefully and choose the option to delete the
partition.
Then install Windows XP on that partition.

Since Windows XP Pro is an upgrade, you will need qualifying media such as
Windows 95/98/ME etc available.

Well, when I choose to delete the partition, it says I can't becaus
there are temporary setup files on that drive.

Also, as far as the qualifying media, last time I upgraded it jus
recognized the existing operating system as qualifying, but I will hav
a disc ready just in case

Are you inserting the CD while at the Desktop?
Instead insert the CD and immediately reboot.
Choose the option to boot to CD and follow the prompts.
