I have win. xp pro. and would like to change to xp home
but i don't know if I install home over pro. if it will
delete all of the stuff i want to keep like saved emails
and what not if someone could give me a hand that would
be nice if you can go from pro. to home anyhow

There is no support for a down-grade install of XP Pro to XP
Home, there is no reason to down-grade, all games and such
run the same on either version.

If you do want to do it, you have to back up all your files,
format and do a clean install of XP Home.

Hi Geno,

Can't do that without formatting, as it is considered a downgrade. You will
need to backup anything you wish not to lose and save it to CD, floppy, or
other media and replace it later. Programs will need to be reinstalled under
the new system.

Can I ask why? Pro is EXACTLY the same as Home apart from some security
enhancements.

You need to do a clean install of Home as mentioned by others here. However
if you use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard you can save your data,
e-mail, settings etc to another location like a second hard drive, second
partition or burn them to CD and then import the files into the XP Home
setup once you've finished with it.

You cannot change your system from Pro to Home, nor
should you really want to. There is very little usability
advantage to doing so and Pro is a much better choice
for security and compatibility. Anything you want to
run with Home should be able to run fine with Pro.
