I am trying to set up a mapped drive on a new Windows XP
Pro system to connect to a Win98 system on our network.
The XP system can't see the 98 machine. There are other
98 machines on the network that it see's fine. There are
two 98 machines that it won't see even if you search for
that specific name. The drive on the 98 machine is shared
and there are several other computers (all 98) that
connect to it. I have several XP machines on my network
also and none of them will see this system. I have ran
the network setup disk on it with no luck. All the
protocoals look the same as machines that the xp system
can see. Any ideas?

These tips should help:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
