I am tearing my hair out!!! Windows XP Pro (not SP2), Athlon 64 on MSI Neo
m/board 1 gig RAM, 2x SATA HDD.
Everything was working just fine, I don't normally switch the PC off, but
recently did and found it now takes and average of 12mins to boot!
Prior to switching the PC off, I had not noticed any major problems or
delays in opening programs or applications.
The BIOS seems to load OK then up comes the black WindowsXP Pro screen with
the 3 blue dots that zooms along (presumably this is where the O/S loads
drivers etc) this takes a long time before the screen goes black, it seems
to wait (again) a long time before the white stripe at the bottom appears
followed by the Windows is loading... and asking for your password.
Upon entering the password it seems to take a longer than normal time to
load up. After loading, most programs seem to start up OK except anything
that is Windows system orinentated like control panel which takes several
seconds to open (used to be instant).
What on earth can be the matter? I have not installed any new programs or
devices recently.
