XP Pro start up.

I have just clean installed XP Pro +SP2 and due to a small hiccup during
installation I have two operating systems.
These shows up during start up when the prog. hangs and shows the two
systems(Both XP Pro) and then waits for me to select which system. In fact it
defaults to the correct one( the one that works) and auto starts after ?
seconds.

Is there a way that I can remove the faulty installation?

leon,

Odds are that you do not have a faulty installation still you just have a
messed up boot.ini file because you didn't perform a format and then
reinstall of windows. You've got a couple of options.

Option 1:

The best thing to do would be to backup your data and perform a format and
reinstall by loading the cd first screen hit esc second screen hit f8 third
screen if it says repair install hit escape if it shows the list of
partitions find your partition and hit d > enter > L to delete the partition
then hit enter on the partition then tell it to format the partition ntfs or
fat 32 whatever you prefer. (Use NTFS unless you have a known program that
will not recognize it.) I always suggest using the quick format. then the
rest you did last time.

More in depth instructions on the Clean install are located here:

Option 2:

Now if you don't want to go through the clean install again and windows is
running good how it is now. Then click start > run > type: msconfig > click
ok > click the boot.ini tab > click check all boot paths. (This will come
back with an invalid bootpath and ask if you want to remove it tell it yes to
remove it.) > click apply and ok and restart to see that it is fixed. Good
Luck

Many thanks Joe, I used the Msconfig route.
