Updates are set to notify and for the last couple of weeks when clicked to
open a list (growing longer) is presented and when clicked to download there
are a few seconds of router activity then action stops and the tray icon
vanishes. The updates fail. A while later the same updates are presented
again. Anyone know how to remedy this.

Thanks, John.

The problem seems to be on Microsoft's end.

I've have a lot of machines on my bench lately and all the Win7 machines
have been updating smoothly but XP has been quite erratic.

Just a hunch but I bet MS is delegating most of their server power to
their newer OS's.

When you have Updates set to Notify, downloading and installing them are
separate actions.

The updates have been downloaded, but not installed. Double left click
the Notify tray icon. You should get a requester that provides a list
of the updates, so you can choose which ones to install, then click
Install.

Yes I do get the page showing the list of updates, its when I click to
install the page closes and there is a few seconds of internet activity the
tray icon disappears and the updates have failed.

Some updates take a LONG time to install. How long do you wait
before cancelling the update? I've had it take several hours to
complete. Or the download was not totally completed for some
reason. Delete the current downloaded updates, reboot and try again.

Your anti-virus software may be interferring with install. Although
such an occurance is rare.
