Does Microsoft intend to support USB DVD burners or are they too foreign --
like space creatures? I've read dozens of posts for 3rd party SW but this is
B A S I C. Will you not be supporting HP printers with SP4?? I can't wait!!

Come out of retirement Billy Gates - as your new guys are sleeping at the
helm. Perhaps you can get you Banglore programming staff to consider this..

You cannot be serious. At least I hope not - given the facts.

First - Windows XP supports CD/DVD devices (USB and otherwise) natively.
Windows XP also supports writing to CDs natively (albeit based off the needs
when Windows XP was released 7 years ago.) Windows XP has never (and likely
will never) supported writing to DVDs other than a few select DVD-RAM drives
(which are not all that common.)

It is doubtful there even will be an SP4 for WIndows XP. Windows Vista (the
first OS released by Microsoft since Windows XP for the average consumer) is
the replacement (like it or not) for WIndows XP. Development on Windows XP
ceased *long ago* (I'd venture to say about the time SP2 was released for
the most part.) Any further updates will be security fixes and the likes -
no more features will likely ever appear on Windows XP.

In other words - if you plan on using an obsolete operating system (which
Windows XP is quickly becoming) - you will have to deal with its
shortcomings. Just like from the day it was released - if you want to write
to a DVD+/-R/RW - you will be using a third party application or just not
doing it.

XP, even pre-SP-1 works as well with USB and firewire DVD-burners as it does
with internal DVD-burners.

Of course, in all cases you need thrid-prty DVD-burning software, such as
Nero or Easy CD Creator.

I use Easy CD Creator, and it automatically recognized three different
DVD-burners, two of which were not attached when it was installed.

If you expect a PC to come complete, work out of the box for processing
media files, try a MAC.

hello,

Vista comes with DVD burning support. If you demand the latest features,
then you must purchase the latest software. Please review your situation
and proceed appropriately.
