cannot launch icon from desktop without "open with", but can launch from
favorites within IE. Ideas?

Could you be a bit more vague?
What "icon" are you talking about?
 
Sorry. I browse to a site through IE, add to favorites. Right click to send
shortcut to desktop. I cannot open using shortcut from desktop without the
"open with" box coming up. I can click on the favorite from inside IE and it
works fine.
 
Get the website up, and then copy the URL from the address bar.. right click
on a clear part of the desktop and select shortcut.. paste the URL into the
box and click Next.. mane the shortcut.. click OK..
 
Might be a program running on the page - rather than a link, so you just
can't "go to it"
Depends on how the webpage was designed

Think of it as you're standing on a GPS mapped spot in your driveway and
wife says - move 2 steps left. You CAN go directly to the first spot,
because it's referenced. But without knowing the gps coordinates, you
cannot save the second spot as a standalone favorite - 2 steps from
WHERE ?
