Following the advice of some MVPs, I went ahead and deleted the
SP2 "uninstall files". Now, in the "add/remove" programs list, SP2 is
still there. I need some support to click on "SP2" and hit "remove".
I don't want to damage my system (it runs great !!) Thanks

Hi

If you have already deleted the uninstall files, then the option in
Add/Remove Programs won't work.

Amy,
If you have truly removed the "uninstall" files, no harm should result.
There is no harm to the display of it however so why don't you just go to
Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/REMOVE the check mark from the box
titled "Show updates" [at the top, right side] Then SP2 and other Windows
Update entries will be hidden untill you re-insert the check mark.

Delete the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows
XP Service Pack

if you have truly removed the following uninstall folder:
C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$

This is the item that appears in Add/Remove programs list (note the
DisplayName item in this key)

Hi Amy,

Click on it, select remove. You will get an error message if the uninstall
folder has been deleted, followed by an option to remove it from the Add &
Remove listings.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my dilema. I took the easy
way out and deleted the portion of the registry entry "Display Name".
I left the rest of the key intact. Now stop clucking !!!!!
