XP PRO SP2 Hyperlink wont open in new window

Any sugestions would be appreciated,

SYS=WinXP Pro SP2, 256 RAM, 200GB 7200 rpm HDD --
In Internet Explorer on the net with a dialup conn. when I right click a
hyperlink and click OPEN IN A NEW WINDOW nothing happens. Also Cd's do not
autoplay even after right clicking the cdrom drive and then the autoplay tab
to select defaults to autoplay any disks.

Have used these applications with the latest versions w/updates current =
"Sys Mechanic Pro" , Panda Anti Virus", Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1,
Grisoft's AVG, Ad-Aware Pro, StartUp Mechanic . and many more no longer on
this machine HJELP
