XP Pro SP2 freezes when Mitsumi CD-R/RW 48x5TE is supposed to star

Hi I have an odd prob with my Mitsumi 48x5TE CD-R/RW. XP Pro SP2 freezes if I
put any cd into the Mitsumi drive. It works fine under Win98se and Knoppix.
It is a SCSI drive but so is the XP partition.
Any ideas on how to fix this ?
