Hello,

First of all, i will say that the copy of Windows XP Pro that i am about to talk about, is entirely LEGAL
----------------

I have a rather urgent problem; I got a copy of windows XP Pro with a Gateway laptop just under 1 yr ago, i decided to upgrade my Dell laptop with this copy.

So i installed it, and everything was fine untill i had to activate windows, i typed in the serial number on the bottom of the gateway laptop. only to find that gateway had put an XP Home serial number on it. so it will not activate.

I am not willing to pay £200 for a new serial number, because it is gateway's fault.

I phoned "their" technical support who never sell gateways and don't know a thing about them becasue it is fun by another company. the guy over the phone could not help me, so i have emailed the american support, and am waiting for a reply.

I have 29 days until the laptop will stop working

Thanks,

KGB

I'm pretty sure you can't do that KGB, so I'm going to have to lock this thread as I don't see how installing a copy of Windows XP from your Gateway laptop to your Dell laptop is legal? Surely thats 2 copies from 1?

I understand that Gateway have given you the Home serial instead of Pro, but thats something that you'll just have to wait for them to give you I'm afraid.

Please PM me if I have misunderstood something.
