Hello,

We currently run 98 machines, 30 in one location and 7 in another
and 2 in another, and are considering upgrading. I have a couple of
question first though. If anyone can answer these I would appreciate it.

1. Can we lock down the computers to where people cannot install any
software on it? I.E. MSN Messenger, windows updates etc..
2. We have a proxy server but people seem to be smart enough to change the
setting on 98 under internet options..can we force them to use the proxy
server on XP Pro?
3. We are looking for a platform that we can maintain rather easily and be
able to have tight restrictions will XP Pro allow this? Better solutions?
4. If Xp Pro is our solution for the Platform any good security setup books
available?

Thanks in advance.

John

We are running apx. 47 comps in 3 locations. I was
running Windows 98 & have since switched to XP Pro. I
love it. Security can be managed considerably more with
XP.It is important to stay current with your updates
automatically..Remote Access works great for real-time
access between multiple location workstations without
having to go to that location. No suggestions on books,
But search the internet and i'm sure you can find lots.

good luck!

98 ahs NO security XP does, the end

u can customize XP to do what ever u want - u can use gpedit under the "run"
option to give u specific security profiles and such to say who can do what
etc etc.

DEFINETLY! get XP over 98.
