My system is connecting fine through the cable modem.
But occasionally I need to connect through a dial-up (as
a backup for when my cable goes down). When trying to
add a dial up, either by trying to install my SBC Yahoo!
service, or through the Connection Manager (which has the
dial up option grayed out), I am being told that the
Remote Access Service is not installed. When I try to
START the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager through
CONTROL PANELS | ADMIN TOOLS | SERVICES -- I get the
following error message:
"Could not start Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
server on Local Computer, Error 1068: the dependency
service or group failed to start."
Also, in another panel I somehow came across SERVICES |
Services (Local) -- I received a different message when
trying to "Start" the Remote Access Connection Manager
service -- "Error 5: Access is denied."
What am I missing? Honestly, I do believe that when I
was first setting up my service, I did get asked (I
thought by my Norton Personal Firewall) whether to allow
internet access by Remote Access -- I thought at the time
that this might be a process that was a security risk, so
I denied it. But I have removed the blocking in the
Personal Firewall program, and this is where I am right
now! Is there another area that I might have blocked?
Thanks for any help/suggestions.
